An income stock is a type of stock that pays regular dividends, offering stable and regular income to its shareholders. Companies issuing income stocks are typically well-established companies in mature industries, such as the utility industry, with robust financial performance. As a result, income stocks have lower volatility as compared to the overall stock market, limiting an investor’s exposure to risk.

Compared to growth stocks, companies issuing income stocks are less likely to reinvest their earnings into research and development, thus generating a high dividend yield. On the other hand, companies issuing income stocks have fewer opportunities to expand, and growth potential is limited.
